Smileat® chunks in small jars
When can they start taking small pieces or solids?
Once the baby starts complementary feeding at around 6 months of age, the format for introducing food can range from porridge to small pieces to a mixed method. Both formats are valid and depend a lot on each family, the baby's characteristics and development. There are babies who from the age of 6 months will be more interested in whole foods and others who will only want purees. Whichever method is chosen, it is important to respect the hunger and satiety signals and make sure that he eats under adult supervision.
Small pieces can be introduced as soon as the baby is already related to some foods and has started complementary feeding. It is important that he can hold his head and sit up, even if he needs a back support, that he shows interest in that food, that he has lost the extrusion reflex (the one that allows him to expel food to the outside with his tongue), that he has good eye-hand-mouth coordination and shows chewing movements, even if he has no teeth. Small pieces are a good opportunity for him to continue to interact with foods and try a greater variety.
We present you our little jars with small pieces, which we call... CA-CHI-TOS!
