What are the best fruits to start baby feeding?

As you may already know, there is no perfect food to start complementary feeding, but we have it clear: fruits are a "must" in this new path. Although the Spanish Association of Pediatrics recommends offering foods rich in iron and zinc as a priority, they also mention that one way to promote and optimize the absorption of this iron is to supplement it with vitamin C... And what better than fruits to provide vitamin C to your baby's diet?

The WHO and the Spanish Association of Pediatrics recommend including at least a couple of servings a day in children's diets.

From the age of 6 months they can eat almost any fruit, with some exceptions, we give you the best tips to make this stage healthy, fun and safe for your baby:

  • Avoid some raw fruits because of their risk of choking, such as apples or pears, although you can adapt them to their cooked version, you will know they are at the perfect point if you can easily crush them with your finger.
  • Avoid small, round fruits such as blueberries, grapes or cherries.
  • Most fruits can be taken well washed and peeled if necessary, start with avocado, strawberries or banana and play with colors.

And remember that it is normal for them to reject some fruits at the beginning. It is not something casual, it is a stage they will go through and it is completely normal.

And as with the introduction of all foods... If he doesn't want to, don't force or get angry. They sense that tense emotional environment and may associate that food with a negative experience, which will reduce the likelihood that they will want to try it again in the future. It's nothing personal: it's a normal stage of their growth and development, and it will happen to them multiple times. It is important that the eating environment is relaxed and conducive to a good relationship with food.
