Cereals at dinner for babies: is it recommended?

Yes, babies can have cereals at night; it’s recommended to choose healthy ones that fit with the rest of their diet. Some prior tips:

  •         Before eating a specific food at dinner, the baby should have already tried it at another time and tolerated it.
  •         Always remember to give breast milk first and then complement with cereals, fish, meat, fruits...
  •         Avoid very late dinners. If your little one wakes up hungry at night, breast milk is best.
  •         Cereal for dinner is fine, always combined with animal or plant protein and vegetables to create a healthy combination.
  • And cereal bottles?

One of the most repeated myths in infant feeding is that babies need bottles loaded with cereals to sleep through the night. This is not true since baby sleep does not directly depend on feeding.

Although some things can help, sleep has its own evolution from birth. This means the best thing we can do is understand and learn how it works to adapt properly to the phases. We don’t mean they happen separately. Of course, they are closely related. The relationship between food and sleep is bidirectional: food affects how they sleep, and sleep quality affects their appetite and feeding the next day.

Sleep in babies: the famous sleep regression.

It starts around 4 months. It’s a phase all babies go through, and the most important thing to keep in mind is that two months later, around 6 months, we begin complementary feeding and… BAM!.

Many changes happen, of course! They are eating foods for the first time, and it’s normal for this to affect sleep, causing more awakenings and difficulty falling asleep…

This has to do with breast milk, co-sleeping, the foods we start with, sleep phases...
