Powdered nuts for babies

Frutos secos en polvo para bebés

Nuts are a very interesting group of foods in infant nutrition due to their content of quality fats, fiber, and plant protein. They are definitely a great ally in children's diets!

However, since they are hard and small foods, their consumption poses a choking hazard. For this reason, the Spanish Association of Pediatrics (AEP) recommends not offering whole nuts to children under 6 years old. Still, they recommend introducing them from 6 months in safe forms such as powder, nut butters, or incorporated into other preparations like purees or pancakes, for example.

Since they are allergens… How should I introduce them?

All allergens can be offered from 6 months of age. It was previously thought that they should be delayed as much as possible, but nowadays we know there is no scientific evidence to avoid foods considered allergens. In fact, early introduction may help prevent allergies in the future.

Here is a list of the most common and usual allergens. Be careful! These are not the only allergens, as you know, we can be allergic to almost any food.

  • Dairy
  • Egg
  • Shellfish
  • Peanut and soy
  • Nuts
  • Fish
  • Gluten
  • Fruits

  • Some basic guidelines?

  • Do not offer new foods before sleeping or at night, so you can observe tolerance and react quickly.
  • The reaction does not usually occur on the first exposure; it often happens on the second or third.
  • If you suspect your little one has an allergy or if they are genetically predisposed, wait 3 to 5 days between introducing new foods.
  • Many foods cause cross-reactions because they share a common component, but don’t panic! Talk to your allergist and it will be resolved.

  • Since every baby is unique, it’s best to talk with your pediatrician and allergist to find the best way to introduce these foods. For example, if your baby has no family history, no atopic dermatitis, and is responding very well to first foods, you can proceed a bit faster.

Smileat creates the first safe product for little ones to consume nuts and peanuts from 6 months

We can proudly say it is the only product on the Spanish market that is a blend of 100% ground nuts and peanuts intended for children. We want to make it easier to incorporate nuts into children’s diets without choking risk, which is the main reason their introduction is usually delayed.

It is a blend of different nuts (hazelnut, cashew, and walnut) and peanuts, ground into powder and unroasted, for easy consumption and to avoid the choking risk associated with whole nuts and peanuts.

Its ingredients are: hazelnut* with skin 32%, walnut* with skin 32%, peeled cashew* 18%, and peeled peanut* 18%. *From organic production.

We cannot prevent your little one’s allergies, but we can help you:

  • Eliminate choking risk thanks to its powdered form
  • Provide significant amounts of fiber and quality plant protein
  • Easily include in their diet a food recommended from 6 months by the Spanish Association of Pediatrics and the WHO
  • You can give it from 6 months if these requirements are met:

  • No allergy to other foods nor atopic dermatitis*
  • No family history of allergies to nuts and/or peanuts*
  • Has already started complementary feeding and has tried a variety of foods frequently without allergic reactions.

  • *In these cases, it is necessary to consult with your pediatrician or allergist beforehand.
