Eating on vacation: What should I give my child?
In everyday life, it is easy to maintain a healthy and balanced diet for ourselves and our little ones. However, when holidays, long weekends, and special occasions arrive, this becomes a bit more complicated. At Smileat, we offer you some tips to ensure your little one continues to have a healthy and balanced diet even during vacations.
Hydration is key
With the hustle and bustle of traveling or being on vacation or visiting somewhere, we can forget the most important thing. Hydrating ourselves and our children is the foundation on which good nutrition is built. It is recommended to do so in many small doses at regular intervals. This way, our little one gets used to drinking fluids frequently, which will also help them as they grow older. Hydration is not just about drinking water. To avoid it becoming a boring and tedious task for our little one, we can offer many other foods. Some of the foods we can give to help with hydration are:- Fruits (or fruit pouches and jars)
- Milk
- Juice
- The temperature (they should be at a moderate temperature, neither too cold nor too hot)
- Don’t be fooled by the season (it is just as important to stay hydrated in winter as in summer)
Vitamins to enjoy all day
When traveling, it is more difficult to give our little one their daily dose of vitamins. However, these are an essential source of energy for our children. Bringing pieces of fruit while traveling or sightseeing is complicated. That’s why, at Smileat, we recommend to continue providing this daily intake: fruit jars or pouches (fruit pouches). Both options are a great solution for breakfast, dessert, or snack. This way, you can give them their daily dose of vitamins and minerals.
Proteins to stay strong
At least once a day (for lunch or dinner), it is necessary for our little one to have a protein dish. Proteins are essential for the body to function well and to assimilate other nutrients. Therefore, we recommend a breakfast such as a 5-grain porridge and a sweet jar (so our little one gets the energy and vitamins needed to start the day). For lunch, we can give a bean stew jar or hake with vegetables and a piece of fruit. At the end of the day, for dinner, we can offer a jar of mixed vegetables, pumpkin and zucchini, or a porridge made with brown rice, corn, and quinoa, gluten-free.
Healthy snacks
Even when well-fed, our little ones may be tempted to want to eat sweets when away from home. Therefore, a good solution is Smilitos, baked corn made only with extra virgin olive oil, or spelt and fruit cookies. With both products, you can give a snack and satisfy the craving for a sweet treat, knowing you are giving them a product good for their nutrition. Both are free from palm oil, sugar, or additives that could be harmful to their health.

By alternating between these products, we ensure that our little ones can have a healthy and balanced child’s diet, even while on vacation.
